Biography

The current line-up of Poke has been writing and performing together since 1999, although as individuals they have all been part of the south-coast underground music scene for about twenty years.

Poke has been in existence since 1996. Originally with psychedelic guitar wizard Rat (Great Imperial Yoyo, Earworm, Cat Killers), Rich Stevens on bass, and dance guru Sonners also providing keyboards and vocals. Stefan Olizynski also had a brief, but influential spell on guitar. However it was when the current four settled that the sound truly established itself.

The members of Poke each bring a number of different and wide-ranging influences together into a crucible of sound, which is quite difficult to describe. They make no attempt to manufacture a particular genre or style, instead preferring to simply take the music as it comes. This allows them the freedom, whilst writing, to explore any number of directions; sometimes simultaneously! Echoes of Jazz, Funk, Blues, Drum & Bass, Prog, Psychedelia, Rock and Dance somehow blend into a sound that is both distinctive and original; and also none of the above!
